CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

The 2021 SC Litter Control Association/Keep South Carolina Beautiful Annual Conference will be held at the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes on September 8 - 10, 2021. The full conference registration fee is $185.00 and includes all breaks, award luncheon and annual individual membership dues. Payment may be made by ACH, cash, check or credit card.

Space is limited, so reservations must be made by Wednesday, August 18, 2021, after which time the room rate is not guaranteed.

The above rates apply three days before and three days after the event based on availability. Hotel room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes, currently 13% in effect at the time of check - in, as well as a discounted daily resort fee of $5.00 plus 9% tax.  Valet parking is currently available for $18.00 plus 9% tax per car per night. 

Guaranteed Reservations

All reservation requests will require a one (1) night's guarantee that will be refundable only if the reservation is canceled at least seven (7) days prior to arrival date.

Cancellation Policy

The Myrtle Beach Marriott has a 7-day group cancellation policy. Group attendees have up to 7 days prior to their arrival to cancel/modify existing reservations. Any changes made after this point will result in a charge of one (1) night’s room and tax.

2:00 PM      Roundtable: Dealing with Illegally Dumped Tires

During this joint session, you will hear from enforcement officers, affiliates, and members of DHEC concerning issues of illegally dumped tires across the state. You will find out differences from county to county and city to city. Bring your questions to ask those presenting.

3:05 PM      Gangs, Graffiti, & Street Level Drugs

Urban street–gang involvement in drug trafficking and violent crime is becoming increasingly widespread. Not just in large cities, but in suburban areas and small towns as well. This one-hour block of instruction will provide a foundation for understanding the diverse nature of gangs, the problem they pose and the harm they cause, and two analytical models of addressing gang related problems.

8:30 AM      Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)

Crisis Intervention Training is a training program for law enforcement officers to learn how to respond safely and quickly to people with serious mental illness in crisis. Officers learn to recognize the signs of psychiatric distress and how to de-escalate a crisis, avoiding officer injuries, consumer deaths, and tragedy for the community, as well as linking people with appropriate treatment.

10:35 AM      De-escalation

Police reformers are pushing for more de-escalation training. This will be a one-hour open discussion concerning de-escalation training, the challenges we face as law enforcement officers and possible ways to de-escalate situations to overcome non-compliance in today’s society

12:00 PM      Awards Luncheon

Join us as we recognize the outstanding litter and beautification achievements of individuals and organizations in the areas of enforcement, awareness, and community service.

2:00 PM      Officer Safety

The goal of this session is to provide relevant, high quality, potentially lifesaving information to law enforcement officers focusing on why an incident occurred, as opposed to what occurred during the incident, with hopes of preventing future incidents. We will discuss the Three-Tire approach to promote officer safety.

3:00 PM      Zero Tolerance for Litter

This session will explain what the Zero Tolerance for Litter campaign is all about, as well as how and why your agency should be involved.

4:30 PM      Field Cameras: Somebody’s Watching You

This session will cover some of the current types of cameras being used in the field. The question is in your county does illegal dumper’s feel like someone is always watching them? If not, they should

Learning to say no in the affiliate world might seem like the sure way to lose volunteers, lose funding, lose everything. However, to stay focused on your mission, learning to say, “no” could be the best thing to ever happen to your affiliate.

10:35 AM      Affiliate Presentations

Local affiliates throughout South Carolina volunteer 5 to 7 minutes to share how they have spent grant funds from Keep South Carolina Beautiful to fulfill this mission and KAB Requirements. From cleanups, plantings, board retention, successes, and failures – be prepared to learn it all.

1:00 PM      Educating in a COVID-19 World

Listen as members of the KSCB Education Committee present ways you can work with and in schools despite the issues of COVID-19.

In today’s world, we deal with diversity more than ever, but how do we bring everyone to the table and achieve our mission? During this session you’ll learn how to bring all volunteers, stakeholders, and many others to join you on a quest to keep a clean, green and beautiful community.

9:35 AM      Affiliate Ideas – Roundtable Sharing

Are you stuck and no idea what to do? Volunteer your affiliate for a session of, “What I would do.” During this session, a few lucky affiliates will very briefly present their affiliate to the group. Information will include the affiliate’s region, the strengths, and its weaknesses. Then, affiliates in the room will share ideas on what kinds of programs, events, and workshops they would have and/or what resources they would try to tap into if they were in the hot seat.

10:30 AM      Branding Your Affiliate

How do you appropriately brand your affiliate to meet all the needs of your community? We will look at a few affiliates who have volunteered for the session as example. We will use these affiliates to show how you can easily rebrand yourselves to match the needs of your community.
