The Tree Grant is a non-monetary award that donates trees and cleanup supplies to be used in beautification projects throughout the state of South Carolina. Recipients of this grant must plant the donated trees on public spaces (i.e. town/neighborhood entryways, parks, schools, churches, etc.) that are accessible to all citizens.

GRANT PERIOD

The Tree Grants are awarded for one calendar year.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:

Litter control organizations, beautification groups, government organizations, neighborhood associations and nonprofit organizations in South Carolina are eligible to apply for these trees.

Award recipients will be required to pick up the awarded trees from the SC Dept. of Correctional Horticulture Facility, located at 4444 Broad River Road, Columbia on October 15, 2026.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:

Trees must be planted on public property accessible to all citizens.
All projects planned in SCDOT right of ways must be approved by SCDOT and follow native planting guides for long-term results.
Must adhere to all terms of the Tree Grant Maintenance Agreement.
The PalmettoPride logo must appear on all printed and promotional items associated with the grant project (e.g. tee shirts, signs, invitations, promo items, etc.). Must register a cleanup event during the SC Sweep and report results online by April 15.
Must submit a final summary report by September 30.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Applications must include the following:

Brief narrative of landscaping project
Landscaping plan and/or marked photos of intended project area

AVAILABLE TREE SPECIES

All trees are between 2 – 6 feet in height, 1 - 1.5 inch in diameter and are in 5-gallon nursery pots. Click on link for a description of each species.

Dogwood (White) (Cornus florida x C. kousa)

Nellie Stevens Holly (Ilex x 'Nellie R. Stevens')

Red Maple (Acer Rubrum)

Thuja Green Giant (Thuja standishii plicata 'Green Giant'')
